OFFBOARDING: How to Make a Clean Break with an Employee
To the business owner, letting someone go is a business decision. To the employee, termination means an abrupt loss of their livelihood and often injury to their pride. A worker who faces the loss of pay without immediate options for reemployment has a strong incentive to look for reasons to challenge the termination or make you pay for it. This workshop covered the employer’s rights, duties, and risks involved in terminating a worker:
- the basic legal principles impacting a decision to terminate an employee
- employer “best practices” in this environment
- how to terminate an employee as cleanly as possible
- Colorado’s laws governing the last paycheck
