In anticipation of fireworks once again lighting up the sky this 4th of July, I find myself reflecting not just on the founding of our nation, but on what it truly means to serve. Independence Day reminds us that the values we celebrate, such as liberty, due process, and equal protection under the law, aren’t just ideals. They are responsibilities, and an ongoing commitment to the citizens of this great nation by everyone in and out of uniform.

My journey of service began in the military, but my commitment didn’t end when I took off my uniform. It simply took a new form.

Today, I proudly continue to serve carrying forward the values instilled in me during my military service with Moriarty Underhill LLC. A firm that serves the business community with not only a sense of duty, but with honor, respect, integrity and so much more.

From Military Mission to Civilian Purpose

The skills I honed in the military, attention to detail, calm under pressure, respect for process, are the same ones I bring to my work in civil law. Whether I’m assisting with contracts or litigation, my goal is to help people navigate complex legal systems with clarity, dignity, and support.

The legal field can be overwhelming for those who aren’t familiar with it. That’s why my job, as a paralegal, makes a difference. In both military and civilian life, I’ve seen how critical it is to bridge the gap between complex procedures and real people. As a paralegal, I aim to serve clients by being a steady, professional presence behind the scenes. I help streamline the process by ensuring attorneys are prepared, filings are flawless, and clients feel informed every step of the way. That’s not just paperwork, it’s empowerment.

Standing Beside Clients During Life’s Hardest Moments

The law touches people’s lives during some of their hardest days. Military life taught me how to stay grounded in moments of stress and how vital it is to meet those moments with empathy and professionalism. In civilian life, I continue to serve by being a steady, supportive presence for clients navigating legal challenges.

Upholding Integrity Through Precision

In the Army, precision wasn’t optional. It was essential. That mindset carries over into every civilian role I take on. Whether it’s reviewing discovery, managing deadlines, or organizing records for litigation, I know that behind every case is a person counting on things being done right. That’s why I treat every detail as if it matters—because it does.

Living the Army Values—Then and Now

My transition from soldier to civilian didn’t mean leaving my values behind. In fact, the Army Values continue to guide me in my civilian work as a paralegal:

  • Loyalty — to my legal team, my clients, and the integrity of the process
  • Duty — fulfilling responsibilities thoroughly and without hesitation
  • Respect — treating all clients, colleagues, and cases with dignity
  • Selfless Service — putting the needs of others before personal gain or recognition
  • Honor — holding myself to high ethical standards even when no one is watching
  • Integrity — doing what’s right, legally and morally, in every decision
  • Personal Courage — speaking up when something seems off, and standing by my principles even under pressure

These aren’t just military ideals, they are the backbone of strong, ethical legal work. They help ensure that people are supported, heard, and treated fairly within the legal system. And I’m proud to work for Moriarty Underhill LLC, a firm that honors these values.

A New Chapter in the Same Mission

Some people see military and civilian service as separate journeys. I see them as two sides of the same coin. On this 4th of July, I’m proud to say that while the setting has changed, the mission hasn’t.

Whether I’m in uniform or at a desk working on your legal matters, I am, and always will be, serving.
